The Inflammation Epidemic

New research shows that Chronic Low Grade Inflammation in up to 50% of the population is contributing to the most common causes of death in the U.S., including:

  • Alzheimer’s, Depression, and Bipolar Disorder - By destroying brain cells and inhibiting toxin removal
  • Cancer - By damaging DNA and promoting tumor production
  • Heart Disease and Diabetes - By damaging arteries, making the body “repair” them with cholesterol
  • Arthritis and Chronic Pain - Destroys cartilage and produces pain-producing chemicals called prostaglandins
  • Autoimmune Diseases - Breaks down organs and ligaments

Normal inflammation has 2 phases and is a necessary part of our immune systems. The Initiation Phase is activated to destroy foreign invaders and clean up damaged tissue and debris. Once the threat or damage is dealt with, the Resolution Phase begins, telling the “clean-up” cells to shut down and end inflammation.

Sometimes, however, the Resolution Phase does not activate when the acute threats to the body have been neutralized. This can occur for a variety of reasons, such as Free Radical damage to the cells from environmental and dietary pollutants, a deficiency of cell-signaling Pro-Resolving Mediators, genetic mutations, or simply cell death due to normal aging processes.

This leads to a condition researchers call Chronic Low-Grade Inflammation (CLGI), or a chronic state of inflammation that can lead to most of the diseases we suffer from today. So how do we end CLGI?

Scientists have recently discovered a class of molecules called Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators, or SPMs. These are specialized chemicals that tell the body to end the inflammatory phase.

Until now, the only way for the body to produce a therapeutic dose of SPMs was through a series of enzymatic processes after taking up to 10,000 mg of Omega 3 Fatty Acids (PUFAs) a day.

Recently, however, a Healthcare Professional’s Nutrition company called Metagenics invented and patented a process to produce SPMs directly from PUFAs. You can now take a standardized, tested SPM supplement, bypassing the body’s deficient enzymatic pathways to get the most efficient and complete resolution of inflammation naturally.

In an 8 week trial, Metagenics’ SPM Active supplements were shown to decrease inflammatory markers in the blood by 43 percent, and pain by up to 50 percent.

Now, instead to taking a synthetic NSAID drug with it’s corrosive side effects on the body, you can boost your own immune system with a natural substance that the body produces on its own. The only difference here is that you are getting exponentially more of it to supercharge your immune system’s natural inflammatory resolution.
