The Real Cause Of Heart Disease

Dr. Dwight Lundell is a world renowned heart surgeon with over 25 years experience. He was chief of staff and chief of surgery at Banner Heart Hospital in Mesa, AZ, and has performed over 5,000 heart surgeries. He is author of The Cure For Heart Disease, and The Great Cholesterol Lie. Dr Lundell knows that Western medicine has not only been wrong for many years on the cause of heart disease, but has actually helped create the epidemic we have today. Although 1 out of every 4 people in the US are now taking statin drugs, more and more Americans are dying of heart disease every year. This flies in the face of what we have been told about heart failure for most of our lives. We have been told that if we just lower our cholesterol and control our low-carb diet, we can avoid a heart attack.

But in the 5,000 heart surgeries that Dr. Lundell has performed, he says there is one common denominator. And it’s not cholesterol. It is inflammation of the artery walls. Without inflammation, he says, cholesterol cannot stick to the inner walls of the arteries, creating plaques that restrict blood flow to our hearts.

Fighting Heart Disease Daily

Dr Lundell likens excess blood sugar to a wire brush. Every time we eat refined sugar, it creates inflammation and cracks in the walls of our arteries, giving bad cholesterol a foothold to begin the process of atherosclerosis, or heart disease.

The problem is that refined sugar is everywhere. From the obvious sodas, desserts and Starbucks drinks, to the sneakier yogurt, salad dressings and even protein bars, the average American consumes 22 teaspoons of added sugar every day. Even fruit has large amounts of sugar in it.

Using SPMs to Combat Heart Disease

You can see that although we can reduce our intake somewhat, it would be very difficult to eliminate all of the inflammation-inducing sugar from our diets. So what is the alternative to going on a permanent carb-free diet? It is controlling the inflammation that even a healthy diet allows to ravage our bodies. Enter Specialized Pro-Resolving Mediators, or SPMs.

Specialized Pro-Resolving mediators are a special kind of “cell signaler” in the body that tells our immune system cells to turn off the inflammatory response before it gets out of control and starts causing damage. Every part of our bodies have SPMs. They help control inflammation not only in our arteries, but also in our muscles and brains and lungs and even in our digestive systems.

SPMs are made, through a series of enzymatic processes in the body, from fish oil. The problem is, to produce enough of them to combat our toxic environment, studies show you would have to take up to 10,000 mg of fish oil every day. That’s a lot of fish burps!

Luckily though, Metagenics, a physician’s line of nutritional supplements, has figured out how to produce concentrated SPMs in the lab. This bypasses the body’s need to make them on it’s own. Simply take 1 or 2 of these a day for mild inflammatory conditions or prevention, or 2-4 of them per day for more serious conditions, and they help your immune system prevent out of control inflammation naturally.

In this way, we can decrease our risk of heart disease and many other inflammation-based conditions in the body. Try them for 60 days and see what you think!
